The workshops which were held in the parishes of St. George and St. Andrew on June 19th and 26th respectively; were aimed at increasing the awareness of players in the music industry on key issues which affect the industry. Presentations were conducted on; developing a contract, selecting the right manager , copy righting, VAT and more importantly managing the stress and fame which may arise during and after the carnival season.
Participants of the St. Andrew’s workshop were afforded the opportunity of receiving advice from one of Trinidad’s most renowned female entertainers, Miss Sandra des Vignes sobriquet Singing Sandra who unexpectedly attended the workshop. In a brief presentation, she urged participants to recognize and remain cognizant of several factors during their career namely; that their talent is a gift from God for which they must be eternally grateful and capitalize on, getting to the top in the industry will be a struggle for which they must be mentally prepared to overcome and when that is achieved; remaining humble and retaining the connection with fans are key to ensure continued success.
The workshops were well received by the overall fifty (50) participants. The Business Development Centre and the Cultural Foundation were applauded for not only their effort in providing much needed training and information to players in the industry but for the opportune time at which the workshops were held considering the onset of the carnival season. Calls were also made for the continuation of forums of this nature in order to facilitate the development of the industry.
