The forum entitled “VAT: Addressing the Issues” was held to provide micro, small and medium sized business (MSME’s) and consumers within the parish and surrounding areas, an opportunity to engage in face to face discussions with a VAT Specialist to clarify any and all issues and problems encountered since the implementation of VAT on February 1st 2010.
The forum was facilitated by Ms. Chinnel Andrews, Public Relations Officer of the Inland Revenue Division, who delivered a presentation specifically structured to provide key relevant information to MSME’s as well as consumers on VAT. The forum was very well received by attendees, who indicated that despite the fact that nationwide consultations were held prior to implementation; many persons were unclear on many aspects of the tax and as a result were plagued with unanswered questions. However, following hearty discussions and questioning, attendees felt more informed on the subject and left the forum with a much clearer perspective and understanding.
Ms. Andrews provided assurance that all concerns and issues raised will be communicated back to the authorities at the VAT Unit and further urged persons to contact the Unit to request any assistance and information on VAT related matters.
