Prime Minister of Grenada Hon Tillman Thomas, today Sunday 30th October 2011, participated in the 2nd day of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Leaders Retreat following by the closing executive session of the conference.
‘The Heads reaffirmed their commitment to the values and principles of the Commonwealth and agreed to a series of actions to maintain the commonwealth’s relevance, to ensure its effectiveness in responding to contemporary global challenges and to build resilient societies and economies’.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, The Hon Dr Denzil Douglas, made closing remarks on behalf of the leaders and thanked Prime Minister Julia Gillard for her kind hospitality extended to the Heads and their delegations.
Prime Minister Thomas said he was happy that he was able to participate in the summit and felt that it was important to reiterate that the commonwealth was a special institution, and the time had come to place special emphasis on the developmental issues which plague our vulnerable economies.
The closing session also received a presentation by the President of Sri Lanka, the host of the 2013 CHOGM.
