The Grenada Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), the Grenada Board of Tourism (GBT) and the Ministry of Finance - Trade Division collaborated to participate in the 10th annual Trinidad Trade and Investment Convention organized by the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers Association (TTMA). The convention was held from June 24th, - June 27th, 2009 at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya, Trinidad.
Grenada had 3 booths at TIC which featured Grenada as an investment and tourism destination together with local manufacturers and their various products to include Caribbean Naturals, Belzeb Aromatherapy, Michelle’s Confectionery, De La Grenada Industries and the Grenada Chocolate Factory. Other products exhibited were from Denis Noel (Nutmed), Glenelg Spring water and Barguna Enterprises (Pep Wine). There was also in attendance a representative from the Grenada Hotel and Tourism Association.
As it relates to promoting Grenada, fliers, brochures, DVD and pamphlets were handed out and local product exhibited, all in which to promote Grenada as an Investment, Tourism and Trade destination.
The main interest of investors was in the service industry, namely construction agriculture, the establishment of retail outlets, publishing, printing and advertising. A number of companies were also seeking distributors or agents for their manufactured products and or services. Almost every visitor to the Grenada’s booth enquired on current business opportunities in Grenada, land availability and the status of Grenada as a tourist destination. Interest was expressed with regards to job opportunities and the procedures necessary to enter into business in Grenadian entrepreneurs.
Investment Seminar
An investment seminar which was hosted by the Hon. Nazim Burke, Minister of Finance Economic Development and Planning. The Minister delivered the feature presentation “Doing Business in Grenada”, highlighting Grenada’s investment climate, current investment activities and investment opportunity currently available. Brief remarks were also made by Mr. Ronald Theodore, Investment Promotion Manager of the GIDC, Senator Arlie Gill on Carnival a Grenada Perspective and Mrs. Nicole Moultrie from the Grenada Board of Tourism on Grenada as a tourist destination.
The seminar was well patronized by the business community of Trinidad and Tobago as well as other countries represented at the Trade and Investment Conference.
